Wiesner Distribution, established in 2000, is dedicated to selecting and distributing premier independent films, primarily in Spanish, across the Caribbean and Central America. It proudly stands as the sole company from Puerto Rico focused on bringing independent Spanish-language cinema to these regions.
In 2025, Wiesner Distribution will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Over the past quarter-century, the company has curated and distributed a diverse selection of over 600 films.
Its portfolio highlights acclaimed filmmakers from around the world, including Nanni Moretti, Aki Kaurismäki, Fatih Akin, Fernando Trueba, Julio Medem, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Icíar Bollaín, Claudia Llosa, Juan José Campanella, Pablo Trapero, Marcos Carnevale.
These distinguished directors represent the breadth and excellence of the global independent film scene that Wiesner Distribution has championed.
A notable achievement in Wiesner Distribution’s history is the exceptional success of Marcos Carnevale’s film “Elsa & Fred” in Puerto Rico. Released in 2005, this Spanish-Argentine co-production captivated local audiences, achieving an unprecedented 76-week run in San Juan cinemas—a record for the country.
This milestone underscores Wiesner Distribution’s dedication to bringing diverse and impactful cinema to audiences in the region, contributing significantly to the cultural tapestry of film distribution.
